New Mexico Nursing Licensing

The New Mexico Board of Nursing is responsible for licensing Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the state.

New Mexico is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). Under the NLC:

  • Nurses who hold a multistate license issued by another NLC member state can practice in New Mexico without applying for additional licensure.
  • If a nurse moves to New Mexico and declares it as their primary state of residence, they must apply for a New Mexico multistate license.

Licensure Application Requirements:

  • ERES Nursing License Evaluation
  • If nursing courses and textbooks were not taught in English, you must provide proof of English language proficiency by submitting results from one of the following exams:
    • IELTS Academic- computer or paper-based
    • TOEFL computer or paper-based
    • Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
