South Carolina Nursing Licensing

The South Carolina Board of Nursing is responsible for licensing Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the state.

South Carolina is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). Under the NLC:

  • Nurses who hold a multistate license issued by another NLC member state can practice in South Carolina without applying for additional licensure.
  • If a nurse moves to South Carolina and declares it as their primary state of residence, they must apply for a South Carolina multistate license.

Licensure Application Requirements:

  • ERES Nursing License Evaluation
  • If nursing courses and textbooks were not taught in English, you must provide proof of English language proficiency by submitting results from one of the following exams:
    • TOEFL computer or paper-based

Important Notice:

State Boards of Nursing may change their requirements at any time. We always strive to keep our information updated but consult the respective Board for confirmation is strongly recommended.
