South Dakota CPA Exam Requirements
To qualify for the CPA Exam in South Dakota, you must meet the following criteria:
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or higher, must include:
- Complete 150 semester units (225 quarter units)
- 24 semester units in accounting-related subjects including Elementary principles of accounting, Intermediate or advanced accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Cost accounting.
- 24 semester units in business-related subjects.
South Dakota CPA Licensure Requirements
To earn a CPA license in South Dakota, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
Work Experience:
- Complete one year of relevant experience, which includes providing services or advice involving, such as Accounting, Attestation, Management advisory, Financial advisory, Taxation, and Consulting skills
- Experience must be verified by a CPA licensed in a U.S. jurisdiction through employment in government, industry, academia, or public practice.
- Individuals holding a valid South Dakota certificate issued before July 1, 2002, are considered to have met this requirement.
Ethics Examination:
- Pass an examination on the rules of ethics and professional conduct as promulgated by the South Dakota Board of Accountancy.
- This examination may be part of the Uniform CPA Exam or a separate ethics examination.
