Washington D.C. Nursing Licensing

The Washington D.C. Board of Nursing is responsible for licensing Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the state.

Washington D.C. is not a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), therefore, nurses planning to work in Washington D.C. must apply directly to the Board of Nursing for licensure.

Licensure Application Requirements:

  • ERES Nursing License Evaluation
  • If nursing courses and textbooks were not taught in English, you must provide proof of English language proficiency by submitting results from one of the following exams:
    • IELTS Academic- computer or paper-based
    • TOEFL iBT produced by Educational Testing Service (ETS)
    • Michigan English Test (MET)
    • Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
    • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE)
    • Occupational English Test (OET)
