Washington Board of Nursing

The Washington State Board of Nursing is responsible for licensing Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the state.

Washington State is not a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), therefore, nurses planning to work in Washington State must apply directly to the Board of Nursing for licensure.

Licensure Application Requirements

If nursing courses and textbooks were not taught in English, you must provide proof of English language proficiency by submitting results from one of the following exams:

  • IELTS Academic- computer or paper-based
  • TOEFL iBT produced by Educational Testing Service (ETS)
  • Michigan English Test (MET)
  • Occupational English Test (OET)
