Educational Requirements

Minimum of 120 Semester Units of college-level education, must include:

  • 6 semester hours in financial and/or managerial accounting (excluding introductory courses).
  • 3 semester hours in auditing.
  • 3 semester hours in U.S. taxation.
  • 3 semester hours in U.S. business law.
  • 3 semester hours in ethics, which may include business ethics, philosophical ethics, or accounting ethics.
  • Course must exclude commercial CPA review courses

Early Exam Eligibility: Candidates may apply to sit for the CPA Exam within 60 days of completing a 120-semester-hour baccalaureate degree, but they must complete the remaining education requirements to qualify for licensure.

Vermont CPA Licensure Requirements

To earn a CPA license in Vermont, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

Education (150 Semester Units)

Work Experience:

  • Candidates must complete one year of accounting experience under the supervision of a Vermont-licensed CPA, document at least 500 hours in attest work and 200 hours in auditing work with detailed records of tasks performed, and ensure their supervisor submits a Report of Supervised Experience Form to the Vermont Board.

Ethics Examination:

  • Candidates must complete eight hours of professional ethics training, covering either the AICPA Code of Conduct or Vermont accountancy statutes and rules.
